東大寺浮雲園地の桜

東大寺の大仏殿のそばに広がる浮雲園地。

桜が見頃を迎えのんびり散策する人々で賑わっています。

アジアや東欧からの観光客も多く、ガイドさんが目印のために持つ旗が国際色豊かでした。

東大寺の大仏は752年に完成しました。
東大寺の前身は728年、聖武天皇の子が1歳に満たないまま夭折したことから親王の菩提を祀るために金鍾山寺を建立したことに始まります。
741年に、国分寺・国分尼寺（金光明寺・法華寺）建立の詔が発せられたのに伴い、この金鍾山寺が昇格して大和金光明寺となり、これが東大寺の前身寺院とされています。

二月堂

二月堂からの眺めは素晴らしく、奈良市内や遠く生駒山、金剛山などを望むことができます。

東大に二月堂は旧暦の2月に「お水取り」が行われることからこの名前がつきました。
二月堂は平重衡の兵火（1180）、三好・松永の戦い（1567）の2回の戦火には焼け残りましたが、1667年お水取りの最中に失火で焼失し、2年後に再建されました。
