雄大な自然と遥かなる歴史

大台ヶ原はどのようにできたのでしょうか。

遥か昔海に流れ込んだ土砂はゆっくりと海底に積もり、やがて岩となり大きな力を受けて隆起し、海面に姿を現しました。

悠久の時の流れとともに隆起と侵食を繰り返した大地は四方に急斜面をもつなだらかな山地となりました。

大台ケ原は海だった時代と山だった時代からさらに氷河期を超えていまのような姿になったそうです。

かつては周囲を絶壁に隔てられ、果てしなく続く静寂が支配する森があり、大きな木々とと苔に覆われた樹海を深い霧が漂い、かすかに生き物とこの森を修行の地として求めた人の気配だけがありました。

その後時代の風が吹き、薬草を求めて、あるいは新天地として人びとが注目する時代が来ました。

現在では麓の森が大きく変わり、大台ケ原にもたくさんの人が訪れるようになりました。

薄暗い霧の森は少しずつ明るくなり、静けさが賑わいに変わり、時間の流れが早くなりました。

大台ケ原は日本有数の雨の多い地帯です。

大台ケ原は紀伊半島の南東にあり、熊野灘までわずか20kmの距離で、標高差1500mの斜面に太平洋の湿気を含んだ風が吹き上げられることで急速に冷やされて大雨が降るそうです。

この日は霧がすごくて、ミストのような細かい霧が横嬲りに吹き付け視界が真っ白でした。

とても幻想的で美しく、また真っ赤に紅葉した木々もとても綺麗でしたが、視界が真っ白なので残念ながら正木峠で引き返すことにしました。

紅葉が素晴らしかったです。

晴れていたらどんなに綺麗だったでしょう。

引き返して車で少し走ると晴れていてこの景色を見ることがきました。

ここからでも山々を見下ろすことができとても綺麗でした。

また峰が折り重なるように続いて素晴らしい景色でした。
