當麻寺の枝垂桜

當麻寺では樹齢300年の枝垂桜が見頃を迎えています。
とても立派でびっくりしました。
何度も訪れていますが、大きな枝垂桜があることを初めて知りました。

大きくてとての綺麗で迫力があります。
當麻寺護念院の中にあり、本堂の横で東西両塔のちょうど間にあります。

種類は江戸彼岸枝垂桜で推定樹齢300年と言われています。
例年3月末から4月上旬が見頃だそうですが、今年は早めに満開を迎えています。

當麻寺　護念院
護念院は中将姫の旧跡寺院として知られている當麻寺塔頭で、5/14に行われる當麻寺練供養式の時には楽屋となり儀式に使う面や装束の一切を管理している寺院だそうです。
庭園は日本唯一の東西両塔を身近な借景とし約千株のぼたん園、樹齢300年の枝垂桜が有名です。

大正3年に発見された十一面観音立像版木は非常に珍しいもので鎌倉時代中期のものだとされています。

東塔が見えます。東西両塔が見えることから双塔園と呼ばれているそうです。
ツツジも素晴らしいそうですのでまた見てみたいです。

當麻寺奥院の枝垂桜も見頃を迎えています。
奥院も桜がいっぱいです。
ソメイヨシノはまだ蕾でしたが、満開の枝垂桜が素晴らしかったです。

奥院楼門（重文）
江戸時代のもので奥院の正面だったそうです。

當麻寺では奥院と護念院が浄土真宗、そして西南院と中の坊が真言宗のお寺です。

この4つのお寺が年番で當麻寺の住職を務めているので、一年ごとに浄土宗と真言宗と宗派が入れ替わる珍しいお寺です。

関西花の寺　第21霊場

春はしゃくなげ、ぼたん、モクレン、夏はあじさい、蓮、さるすべり、秋は紅葉、萩、そして冬は椿、蝋梅、せんりょうなどお花がとても多くて落ち着いた庭園に花を添えています。

當麻寺奥院
浄土真宗総本山知恩院の「奥之院」として建立された寺で、最初は往生院と呼ばれていました。

寒牡丹が有名ですが、桜も素晴らしいです。

阿弥陀如来像を中心に数多くの石仏が並び阿弥陀仏の姿を写す極楽の池「宝池」があり、背後にはに二上山が迫ります。

東西両塔と楼門、そして見事な桜が本当素晴らしかったです。
