桜に囲まれる東西両塔

両塔が現存しているのは日本唯一と言われる当麻寺。

奈良時代によく行われた双頭伽藍をいまに伝えています。

ちょうど桜が咲き乱れとても美しく素晴らしい眺めでした。

當麻寺塔頭西南院

西南院は當麻真人国見が麻呂子親王によって草創された萬法蔵院を白鳳12年に百済の僧正を迎えて當麻寺として遷造した時、裏鬼門の守り寺として創建されました。

庭園は江戸時代初期に作られたものです。

山裾を利用し、樹木を植え泉池を設け四周は飛び石で回遊し、直線と曲線を交え庭園全体の景観を形作っています。

天平建築の西塔を借景として女性的で和やかな庭園です。

當麻寺

當麻寺は用明天皇第三皇子麻呂子親王が聖徳太子の教えによって創建されたお寺で、中将姫や當麻曼荼羅、天平時代の東西両塔、そして日本最古の白鳳時代の梵鐘は石灯籠などで知られています。

本殿はとても大きくて立派で少し離れないと写真に収まらないほどです。

広い境内には中院、西南院、奥院など多くの増院が立ち並び、それぞれ公開されています。

當麻寺では奥院と護念院が浄土真宗、そして西南院と中の坊が真言宗のお寺です。

この4つのお寺が年番で當麻寺の住職を務めているので、一年ごとに浄土宗と真言宗と宗派が入れ替わる珍しいお寺です。

関西花の寺　第21番霊場

春はしゃくなげ、ぼたん、モクレン、夏はあじさい、蓮、さるすべり、秋は紅葉、萩、そして冬は椿、蝋梅、せんりょうなどお花がとても多くて落ち着いた庭園に花を添えています。

奥院楼門（重文）

江戸時代のものでかつて奥院の正面だったそうです。

當麻寺奥院

浄土真宗総本山知恩院の「奥之院」として建立された寺で、最初は往生院と呼ばれていました。

寒ぼたんが有名ですが、桜も素晴らしかったです。

阿弥陀如来像を中心に数多くの石仏が並び阿弥陀仏の姿を写す極楽の池「宝池」があり、背後にはに二上山が迫ります。

東西両塔と楼門、そして見事な桜が本当素晴らしかったです。
