元興寺の桜

世界遺産元興寺の桜

元興寺の桜が見頃を迎えています。

萩や桔梗なども素晴らしいですが、桜はまた一段と華やかで素敵でした。

元興寺はならまちにありますが、ならまちは元は元興寺の境内だったと言われています。

1451年に放火によって元興寺が焼失しそこが町になったとされています。

なんとか伽藍を維持し、その後も発掘調査がされ現在の元興寺になりました。

日本最初の本格的伽藍である飛鳥寺から新築移築されたのが元興寺です。

この一部分に使用されている瓦は飛鳥時代に出土したものです。

見事な桜です。

萩が有名ですが、年々根元から新しい芽が出るそうで今はスッキリ跡形もない感じです。

ここからあれだけの萩の木が育つと思うとすごいです。
